Increased quotas for employed persons from third countries and service providers from the EU/EFTA

The Swiss Federal Council continues to respond to the sustained demand within the economy for skilled workers from third countries as well as service providers from the EU/EFTA.

Increased quotas for 2018

In 2018, Swiss companies will be allowed to recruit a slightly higher number of skilled workers from third countries as well as service providers from the EU/EFTA area compared to 2017. By voting to increase the maximum size of certain quotas, the Federal Council is taking steps to satisfy the sustained demand within the economy for skilled workers from third countries. The necessary amendment to the regulation on admission, residence and employment (VZAE) enters into force on 1 January 2018. This will officially approve the maximum numbers for 2018.

A total of 8,000 specialists from third countries can be recruited – an increase of 500 compared to 2017, which also saw the quotas increase by 1,000 people.
