Pension payments from the AHV must be requested in advance

Pension payments from the Old-Age and Survivor’s Insurance (AHV) must be requested.

Many older employees assume that their AHV pension will be paid out automatically when they reach retirement age. However, since the AHV is an insurance fund, it must be notified of the “relevant event”, i.e. the fact that you have reached retirement age. Your entitlement to your pension arises on the first day of the month following your corresponding birthday.

The processing of your application can take several months. It is therefore advisable to register ahead of time with the relevant compensation fund.
