Increase in Compensatory and Equalization Interest Rates in the Canton of Zurich
When taxpayers settle their taxes before the due date, they are entitled to receive compensatory interest during the period between payment and the due date. Taxpayers also benefit from such interest for payments that exceed the subsequently determined definitive tax amount. The due date is typically September 30th of the respective tax year. After the due date, equalization interest owed for uncovered tax amounts (difference between the final and the paid tax amount).
Effective January 1, 2024, both the compensatory and equalization interest rates in the Canton of Zurich will be increased from the current 0.25 percent to 1 percent. Due to the higher interest rate, early settlement of the provisional invoice can be advantageous for you.
